Overview
The UAE is home to millions of expatriates, including one of the largest Indian communities anywhere in the world. For many of them, an HIV or STD worry is one of the loneliest experiences of life abroad.
People search for an HIV doctor in Dubai or the best doctors for HIV/AIDS in Dubai late at night, often after days of silent worry. Many are not even sure whether their exposure carried any real risk. Others have a test result they don't understand. And many would simply feel safer speaking first to an Indian HIV doctor, online, in Hindi, outside their workplace and community.
That is what the HIV Testing Counselling program offers: private, one-to-one counselling with Dr. Yuvraj Monga, an Indian HIV, AIDS and STD specialist who consults people in every emirate on WhatsApp, voice or video. We cover the full testing journey, from pre-test counselling to post-test counselling, and we always point you to licensed UAE providers for tests and treatment.
Popular guides: Dubai Marina, Bur Dubai, Deira, Business Bay, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Ajman. See also our counselling services or contact us privately.
The program
Behind this page is the HIV Testing Counselling program of Dr. Yuvraj Monga, MBBS, MD, an Indian HIV, AIDS and STD specialist physician with a fellowship in infectious diseases. Over 25 years he has managed and treated patients from around the world, many of them working in the UAE and the wider Gulf. His counselling follows WHO guidelines and the EXACT program.
Easy consultation, friendly follow-up. We were among the first to build counselling around the whole journey: exposure, anxiety, counselling, testing and treatment.
Locations
Know before you test
Many expatriates around Bur Dubai and Dubai Marina are afraid to even ask a question about HIV. Understanding the rules, and what counselling can and cannot do, is the first step to a calm decision.
The medical fitness examination for UAE residence visas, at first application and at renewal, includes an HIV test. Official guidance says applicants must be free of communicable diseases such as HIV and TB.
HIV and STD testing in Dubai is carried out by facilities licensed by the Dubai Health Authority (DHA), which follow UAE regulations, including the notification of certain infectious diseases such as HIV.
A confidential conversation: an honest look at your risk, the right test and timing, and support with anxiety. A first name is enough to begin.
Counselling does not replace legal advice. For anything about visas, employment or the law, consult a qualified professional in the UAE; we will never suggest avoiding lawful obligations.

Our approach
EXposure · Anxiety · Counselling · Testing & Treatment
Facts first: what happened, when, and whether PEP is still possible.
Tools to stop the late-night symptom searching.
One-to-one time for every question, in your language.
A dated plan and clear guidance alongside your UAE care.
Testing journey
Whether you live near Bur Dubai or Deira, the testing journey is the same four steps. Pre- and post-test counselling are what make each step make sense:
Exposure review, PEP check, the right test type and date, how results are shared.
Blood drawn at a licensed UAE laboratory, usually a 4th-generation test.
Practical tools for the anxious days, and no needless repeat tests.
Your result explained in context, retest dates if needed, and a prevention or care plan.
It is the conversation held when you receive an HIV test result. It confirms that you have understood the result correctly, checks whether the test was taken late enough to be conclusive, plans any retest, and, if the result is reactive, provides support and a clear route to specialist care.
Most fear begins with a screening report nobody explained. Was it a 4th-generation test or antibody-only? Taken at 2 weeks or 6? Does “reactive” mean positive? HIV screening test counselling answers those questions before and after you test.
Results
Knowing the real HIV test results time helps you plan and stops you reading meaning into a delay. Laboratories in Dubai are generally quick, but the more important clock is the window period:
| Test | When it becomes reliable after exposure | Typical time to result |
|---|---|---|
| HIV RNA (NAT) test | Can detect HIV from about 10–33 days | Days, depending on the laboratory |
| 4th-generation antigen/antibody test | Detects most infections by about 6 weeks | Often within a day or two at many UAE laboratories |
| Rapid antibody test | Reliable from about 12 weeks | Minutes; a reactive result needs lab confirmation |
| Confirmatory testing | Done only after a reactive screen | Adds several more days at a reference laboratory |
Testing too early is the most common reason people test again and again. Note your exposure date, the test type and the test date, and bring them to your session. Our sister site explains when a retest after a negative result is really needed.

Confirmation
People often ask us, “What test is used to confirm a diagnosis of HIV?” The answer is a confirmation process with several steps:
Sensitive by design, so a small number of reactive screens turn out negative on confirmation.
Usually an antibody differentiation test or Western blot at a reference laboratory: two independent tests must agree.
A nucleic acid test settles disagreements and detects very early infection.
Most laboratories confirm on a second sample, so no diagnosis rests on a single tube of blood.
“Serology” means blood tests for antibodies and antigen. In a serology test counselling session we go through your report line by line: the assay used, the cut-off values, and what “reactive”, “non-reactive” or “indeterminate” really mean. You can share a photo of the report with your name covered.
After your result
Post-test counselling for HIV depends entirely on what the report says. Here is a simple decoder, and what we cover with clients in Dubai for each result:
Means: Nothing found by this test.
Next: Final only after the window period for the test you had; otherwise plan one more test on the right date.
Means: The first test needs checking.
Next: Confirmation comes next; some reactive screens are false alarms.
Means: An unclear supplementary result.
Next: Usually resolved with a repeat sample or an RNA test a few weeks later.
Means: HIV confirmed by independent tests.
Next: Treatment begins with a specialist; an undetectable viral load protects partners.
Waiting is often the hardest part: these practical tools for coping while you wait for results can help. For a confirmed result, read about HIV treatment, viral load and CD4 and the HIV care continuum.
Local care
“Best doctors for HIV/AIDS in Dubai” is a common search, but the right doctor depends on today's need. For STD/HIV testing and treatment in Dubai, you will use infectious disease clinics at DHA hospitals and DHA-licensed private hospitals. For a confidential first conversation, an Indian HIV doctor online can help you prepare.

He trained in medicine (MBBS, MD), completed a fellowship in infectious diseases in Australia and has focused on HIV, AIDS and STDs for over 25 years. Many in Dubai search for an Indian HIV doctor in Dubai online; that is exactly his role: counselling and guidance online, alongside your licensed UAE care.
PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) is medicine that people without HIV take before a possible exposure to prevent HIV. The most common form is a daily tablet containing tenofovir and emtricitabine. Taken as prescribed, PrEP reduces the risk of getting HIV from sex by about 99%, according to the US CDC. It does not protect against other STIs, so condoms and regular STI testing still matter.
PrEP is not PEP. PrEP is taken before exposure. If you have already had an exposure in the last 72 hours, you need PEP: please consult a doctor or hospital in your own area immediately. Read PEP vs PrEP and who should consider PrEP.
After a consultation and baseline tests, Dr. Monga can prescribe PrEP. Medicines are couriered anywhere in India, and for clients abroad we discuss the safest legal way to get your PrEP during the consultation.
In the UAE, bringing in or importing HIV medicines is strictly controlled, and breaking these rules can have serious consequences. Never order or carry PrEP into the UAE without confirming it is permitted; discuss local options with a UAE-licensed doctor, or start PrEP while you are in India.
Our vision: a life free of HIV for everyone we counsel, through prevention, early testing and the right treatment.

The human immunodeficiency virus targets the immune system's CD4 cells. Transmission requires specific body fluids to enter the body, usually through condomless anal or vaginal sex or shared needles; kissing, handshakes, shared meals and swimming pools pose no risk.
Some people develop a flu-like illness 2–4 weeks after infection: fever, sore throat, rash, swollen glands, aching muscles, tiredness or mouth ulcers. Many have no symptoms at all. Because these signs are common in everyday illness, and in anxiety, only a correctly timed test can give an answer.

A reactive screen is confirmed with a different assay, such as an HIV-1/HIV-2 differentiation test or Western blot, and sometimes an HIV RNA test, usually on a fresh sample.
Pre-test: risk review, PEP check, choosing the right test and date. Post-test: understanding the result, deciding on any retest, and a plan for prevention or care.
Nausea, bloating and tiredness are common early on. Take doses with food, keep up fluids and ask your prescribing doctor about anti-nausea medicine. Never stop PEP on your own; fever with rash or yellow eyes needs urgent care.
Many UAE laboratories report a 4th-generation screening result within a day or two, and rapid tests take minutes. If a screen is reactive, confirmatory testing adds several days. What matters more is testing after the window period.
The online counselling package for UAE residents is US$99, with details confirmed on WhatsApp before payment.
